Chief Artistic Director  (Stipend Included)

The Chief Artistic Director oversees and directs the artistic activities of all Culture Shock DC (CSDC) dancers and performances. He/she/they is the driving force behind the look and feel of CSDC and makes decisions regarding creative elements of all productions.  This individual must be dedicated to our mission of providing education, professional level entertainment, and community enrichment through dance. The Chief Artistic Director reports to the Board of Directors and is co-leader of the organization along with the Business Director.

Responsibilities

  • Determine and disseminate the artistic direction for all CSDC dancers
  • Collaborate with company directors to plan the season based on his/her/their vision for the organization
  • Select and train artistic directors for each troupe
  • Arranges for studio time
  • Collaborate with company directors to plan the calendar: auditions, productions, community outreach, and other events
  • Ensure the creation of fresh choreography for all troupes
  • Inspire & empower diverse members to achieve artistic & personal excellence
  • Coordinate outreach performances in schools and other organizations to inspire and develop artistic passion within dancers
  • Hire guest choreographers and arrange for master, or advanced, classes
  • Develop opportunities for professional advancement of Culture Shock and its dancers
  • Plan and coordinate Master Class series and other major troupe and dancer development opportunities
  • Collaborate with the CSDC Business Director to create and adjust budget annually
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Culture Shock International and the dance community in the DMV
  • Any other duties that move the mission forward as they arise

Knowledge

  • Principles of Hip-Hop and other kindred styles of dance, history, and culture
  • Understanding of budgeting and planning

Business Director (Stipend Included)

The Business Director provides overall leadership, management, and supervision of Culture Shock DC’s (CSDC) finances, fundraising, and human resources.  He/she/they is responsible for developing the organization’s resources and ensuring the company’s plans are implemented effectively and goals are achieved. The Business Director works collaboratively with the Chief Artistic Director as a “co-leader” to ensure the continued progression of CSDC’s mission of providing education, professional level entertainment, and community enrichment through dance. The Business Director reports to the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit the budget annually to Board of Directors for approval; review periodic budget reports to compare actuals against forecasts; provide explanations of variances as necessary
  • Lead resource development efforts, including preparing annual fundraising plan
  • Attend and participate in major fundraising events
  • Prepare, submit and manage grants
  • Develop a marketing plan with the CSDC Chief Artistic Director and Operations team to ensure the community is informed of programs and events
  • Maintain records of all donors and volunteers; Maintain existing and develop new donors and volunteers; Create strong relationships with foundations and major individual gift donors
  • Prepare and maintain contracts and insurance
  • Manage accounts payables and receivables; Approve certain expenditures according to policies
  • Provide overall administrative direction, technical advice and supervision of Operations directors
  • Collaborate with CSDC Chief Artistic Director to develop opportunities for advancement of company
  • Facilitate CSDC Operations meetings
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Culture Shock International and the dance community in the DMV
  • Any other duties that move the mission forward as they arise

Video Production Intern

  • Capture high quality footage of concerts, beginner and advanced classes, workshops and additional events as assigned.
  • Utilize video enhancing techniques during video post-production in accordance with overall production concepts.
  • Oversee the quality of all audio and video editing.
  • Work closely with the Social Media Coordinator to upload content to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Communicate clearly with CSDC Directors and staff and adhere to deadlines.
  • Collaborate with staff to effectively capture desired visions through footage.
  • Assist with the development of internal and external marketing strategies.
  • Maintain and design a video media database with clips that may be utilized for fundraising, grant writing, and other non-performance related organizational purposes.

Applicants will preferably have experience at the university level in video editing, marketing and/or visual communication. Knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, AfterEffects and the Hip Hop dance industry is a plus. This is a voluntary position. Photography Intern

  • Capture and provide high quality images of concerts, classes, workshops and additional events as assigned.
  • Provide at least 15 selected “best of” images from each event immediately after assignment with all remaining photos to be delivered within two weeks of assignment’s completion.
  • Maintain an organized photo database that can be queried for specific needs, and label photographs accordingly.
  • Manipulate and enhance images.
  • Take posed, full action and candid shots.
  • Communicate clearly with CSDC Directors and Staff and adhere to deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Staff to effectively capture desired visions through photographs.
  • Assist with the development of internal and external marketing strategies.

Applicants will preferably have experience at the university level in photography, marketing and/or visual communication. Knowledge of Lightroom, Photoshop and the Hip Hop dance industry is a plus. Graphic Design Intern

  • Design and produce print and digital collateral from concept to final production.
  • Create flyers and promotional materials for classes and events.
  • Support social media outreach by creatively engaging audiences on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
  • Communicate clearly with CSDC Directors and Staff and adhere to deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Staff to effectively communicate desired visions through designs.
  • Incorporate changes recommended by Staff into final designs.
  • Assist with the development of internal and external marketing strategies.
  • Maintain and develop a database of all created graphic media to develop standard design templates for CSDC initiatives and events.

Applicants will preferably have experience at the university level in design, marketing and/or visual communication. Knowledge of Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and the Hip Hop dance industry is a plus. This is a voluntary position.
